ÒBased on geographical location temples of Khajuraho can be classifieds into the Western Group of Temples, the Southern Group of Temples and the Eastern Group of Temples. Out of all these groups the Western Group has some of the well-preserved and well maintained temples which showcase the best of Chandela arts and architectures. This group of temples is located in the center and has beautiful green lawns and gardens encircling them. This group has entirely Hindu temples the largest being the Kandhariya Mahadev which is followed by a granite temple of Chaunsath Yogini. The Chitragupta Temple is dedicated to the Sun God while the Vishwanath Temple is known its three-headed image of Brahma. The Lakshmana Temple is superbly decorated and dedicated to Lord Vishnu with his consort Goddess Lakshmi. The sanctum is adorned with a three-headed idol of Vishnu"s incarnations in Narasimha and Varaha form.

The Eastern Group of Temples consists of two historic Jain temples the Adinath Temple which is profusely decorated with sculpted figures of Jain Tirthankar Adinath and the Parsvanath Temple which is known for its marvelous sculptures and intricate decorations with inscriptions from Jain mythology. The Vamana and the Javari Temples are famous for the sculptured beauty of apsaras in various sensuous poses and ornately carved doorway.
The Southern Group of Temples is known for its two temples the Chaturbhuja dedicated to the massive and carved image of lord Vishnu and the Duladeo dedicated to Lord Shiva which is famous for its carvings, design and decorations. It is also one of the last temples of the Chandela era.
