On Thai women and Relationship
There"s nothing wrong with meeting your Thai sweetheart in a bar, I mean, that happens all the time back home, but I think there are good reasons to be vary before entering into a serious relationship with a "bar girl".First of all, there"s no point in generalizing, Thai women are not the same as isn"t foreign men in Thailand. Yet, most foreign men seem to end up with uneducated Thai women from the particular province of Isaan. This isn"t wrong in any way of course, but I think many foreigners do not really understand how very different life in rural Thailand is compared to their cushy, wellfare states.
Village life does entail waking up at dawn and then working in the field for 12 hours straight simply to put food on the table. If you don"t work in farming, then most will work in menial labor intensive jobs for low pay. Those who get an education will still face an invisible wall in climbing the social ladder. Thailand is in many ways a feudal society and social mobility is low to non existant.
So, if you meet a girl from this situation, try to keep in mind that where you have a lot of choice and likely grew up knowing that there was many options available to you, then a poor Thai girl do not have these options. Her chance of social mobility are quite limited and for many, being married to a foreigner means a much higher standard of living, not only for her but for her family. Speaking of families, the pressure from parents can be quite strong when they find out that she is dating a perceived rich foreigner.
So ask yourself: Am I ready to support my girlfriend/wife?
I believe many guys would be much happier if they tried meeting women from the middle class instead who are not looking for security but rather for experiences and freedom.
